How Sleeping On Your Left Side Affects Your Health

People sleep in different position that they choose as the most comfortable one for them. To those of you who sleep on your left side, you are enjoying some health benefits, as opposed to those who sleep on the right side.
Even though you might think you’ve found the perfect sleeping position for falling in a deep sleep, try to adjust your position to the left side if possible. Here are some of the advantages of sleeping on your left side that you should be aware of.

Prevent Heartburn during Night time

While sleeping on your left side, the stomach is below the cardiac sphincter, which connects the stomach with the esophagus, preventing heartburn due to the fact that it is preventing any contents in the stomach to go back into the esophagus.

Improving Drainage of the Lymphatic System

Toxins and impurities are removed from our body by the Lymphatic system. Experts have said that on the left side there is a duct in which the lymphatic system is drained.
So sleeping on your left side will provide some benefits, it will speed up the process of removing toxins from your body through your lymphatic system.
The lymphatic system can gather the proteins that escaped their cells, so sleeping on your left side can bring back the proteins in their place where they should be.

Normal Heart Function

The left side of your heart is constantly pumping blood towards the body, so logically it is better to sleep on your left side, because with that you make the heart’s job much easier, and it can function properly while you are asleep.
If you sleep in this position the circulatory system uses the gravity as its benefit to make its job easier, more specifically said the inferior vena cava (IVC) and the aorta, which are big, the IVC helps for the carry of the deoxygenated blood to the heart and is placed on the right side of your spine.

The liver can quite often become burdened. Sleeping on the left side neutralizes toxins before they are eliminated and accumulated in the liver and disposes of them easily.

Improves the Spleen Function

One of the parts of the lymphatic system is the spleen. You can help the spleen to function better, by sleeping on your left side because it is placed on the left side of our body.
The blood flow is boosted if you are sleeping on your left side, because of the gravity, and that makes it more effective in filtering impurities.

The Ileocecal Valve (IV), that links the large and small intestines and is located on the left side, is being helped by the sleeping position as it is easier for the valve to transfer waste from the small and large intestine. It is also helped by gravity in regulating bowel movements.

Sleeping on the right side during your pregnancy, is not wrong at all, but enjoy a few benefits by sleeping on your left side, especially in the last trimester.
The benefits from it are that it can save the liver from unwanted wight and it allows it to do its functions more easily, and it will improve your blood circulation.
It might feel a little strange at first to sleep in this position, but once you get the hang of it, you will start to feel the multiple benefits this sleeping position offers.
