Through the crackle of the baby monitor, Beni swore he heard a scream.
The US dad raced into the nearby room where five of his nine children lay peacefully sleeping.
He stopped short at the sight of brother-in-law Emanuel Flutur leaning over the bed of his three-year-old girl Josephine, according to police.

The two men fought, with Beni barely feeling the cut sliced into his hand as he struggled to disarm the 33-year-old, NBC8  reports.
But it was too late to save little Josephine.
The young girl died on Sunday evening from injuries to her neck, in Clinton County, Kentucky in the US, more than a day after she was attacked, according to a Fayette County Coroner’s Office release.
A motive for the attack is not yet known.

Family posts heartbreaking photo of little girl

On a joint Facebook page, Beni and her mum Simona shared a heartbreaking picture of them clutching her hand as she lay in a hospital bed.
AGoFundMe page has also been set up to raise money for Josephine’s body to be buried in Michigan.
In little over a day, the page is only US$8,000 short of its US$50,000 goal.
“The family of Beni and Simona Bulubenchi from Kentucky are going through a tragedy,” the page said.
“One of their nine children, Josephina Mia, has passed away Sunday, December 9, leaving behind a heartbroken family."

Brother-in-law "too violent" for mug shot

Flutur, who lived with the family, was arrested and charged with murder on Saturday.
He was reportedly “too violent” to take a mug shot after being arrested, according to jail officials.
He was initially charged with two counts of first-degree assault and four counts of wanton endangerment.
However, additional charges are expected to be added in the coming days.
It’s unclear whether he has a lawyer at this stage.
