6 Reasons Why You Need To Stop Pleasing Everyone And Start Prioritizing Yourself

“When you say ‘Yes’ to others, make sure you are not saying ‘No’ to yourself.” – Paolo Coehlo
When you say ‘no’ to yourself, instead of feeling fulfilled, grateful, and happy, you start feeling empty, lifeless, and numb. And indeed, trying to please everyone can be really overwhelming, exhausting, and stressful.
Because when you are overly caring, compassionate, kind, loyal, and hardworking your energy levels drop at a heartbeat and you will need more time to relax and recharge your batteries.
Here are 6 reasons why you should stop pleasing everyone immediately.

1. YOU WILL LOSE YOURSELF.

When you try too hard to please others, you will become a pushover and a people-pleaser. So please, stop. Even though you may not be seeing this as a bad thing, trust me it is. Because the more you try to agree with everyone else, the more you will lose yourself and your true essence.

2. YOU WILL BE VULNERABLE.

When you do your best to please everyone, you will become more vulnerable to criticism and your flaws because you will start depending way too much on the opinions of others. You can’t just please everyone, so please – stop!

3. YOU WILL HARM YOURSELF.

Once you realize that you couldn’t please everyone, it could feel like a burning hell. When your efforts are left unnoticed by others you may start feeling an immense pain within you because your identity has always depended on the opinion of others. You will soon start feeling like your life has no meaning.

4. YOU WILL CREATE CO-DEPENDENCIES.

Other people will begin to depend on you because they will get accustomed to you doing so many valuable things for them and they will start literally relying on you. So, when you don’t show up for them, their plans could fall through and their lives could suffer as well. This co-dependency is dangerous because it can happen subtly without you even realizing it.

5. YOU WILL DAMAGE YOUR HEALTH.

When you spend way too much time, energy, and effort in trying to please others, you can easily forget to take care of you and your well-being. Focusing on other people’s needs instead of your own can cause you stress and it can indeed be damaging to your health in the long run.

6. YOU WILL FELL UNLOVED.

The irony is that when you help others, you may find it difficult to find help and support when you need it yourself. Many people don’t even expect you to ever need their help, so their oblivion can really make you feel unloved and uncared for.
Finally, all these things may be a result of a lack of self-esteem, and a deep fear of rejection, as well as feelings of guilt and pressure. Plus, you can easily become addicted to this need of having to please everyone, so be careful.
And, when you are not busy pleasing everyone, you will have more time for yourself to follow your dreams, to recharge, to read, to travel, and to connect with your inner self.
Isn’t this motivating enough to say ‘no’ to others, and finally start saying ‘yes’ to yourself?
